Classes for Kids of All Ages
In addition to our full slate of improv classes for adults, Chicago City Limits offers classes and workshops designed specifically with kids in mind. Offered throughout the year—or at any time to parents looking to add something fun to their youth group trip or birthday party—our just-for kids classes, the Program for Young Audiences and Imagination Playground (see descriptions below) are the perfect way to get kids on their feet and playing together.
The Program for Young Audiences
Chicago City Limits’ Program for Young Audiences is an entertaining, engaging program specially geared to middle- and high-school-aged audiences. The PFYA provides young people with a behind-the-scenes look at how improv actors practice their craft.
Part show and part tell, The PFYA first gives students insight into how Chicago City Limits cast members create improvised comedy scenes and songs on the spot. Then kids’ ideas come to life, as students watch their own suggestions become the inspiration for CCL’s scenes. The PFYA is highly interactive throughout, with students encouraged to call out suggestions for scenes, ask our performers questions, and even get in on the performance.
The program runs 45-60 minutes, and can be combined with more intensive workshops taught by cast members.
Through movement, improvisation, song, and theater games, kids will be immersed in the magic of their favorite fairy tales and stories. Kids will have an opportunity to learn acting, storytelling, and the wonders of improv as they watch their own ideas come to life before their eyes.
